New at See Song Designs – Rings!

If you haven’t noticed, there are quite a few new jewelry pieces in the shop. One of the big changes to the line is the addition of hand made rings!

One of my longtime goals has been to add rings to See Song Designs. The idea of making rings using fire and metals has always intimidated me, but I knew rings would really complete the collection and I kind of just love wearing rings in general ūüôā Last year, I finally took the dive and enrolled in a basic metal-smith¬†class. I was able to learn the fundamentals of soldering and shaping metal, and it was an amazing experience.

Since then, I have been working on honing and improving my techniques to finally bring you some beautiful simple rings for the new See Song Designs collection. All of the Opal Rings are made of 16 gauge 14k gold-filled which has¬†a solid layer of 14K gold bonded with heat and pressure to a base metal, which¬†lasts for many years, even with daily wear.¬†Since each ring is handmade, you are able to get lots of customization. There are 5 multi-dimensional colored synthetic opals to choose from, and you can choose if you’d like the ring to have a smooth or hammered finish.

I also make simple thin band rings which are perfect for stacking and can be made in 18 gauge gold-filled or sterling silver in any size or finish. I personally love wearing the thing rings as stacked midi rings.

Renegade Craft Fair Chicago Recap

Renegade Craft Fair was this last weekend, and it was such a blast! Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth and checked out our new pieces.¬† Our Bow Bracelets and Fishtail Gem Bracelets were a huge hit at Renegade, so I’m excited to get to work creating more to restock. I have done quite a few craft fairs and street festivals in the past, but by far, Renegade has been my favorite to exhibit and attend.

I haven’t done a craft fair in quite awhile, so I was really excited for Renegade. I really wanted to revamp the look of my booth and the jewelry displays, so lots of planning and Pinteresting happened.

I decided on a neutral table cloth of burlap and then I made new bracelet stands inspired by this tutorial from Life Ann Style. Instead of using paper rolls, I used PVC piping from Home Depot that I covered in vinyl that I got from the fabric store. I also got some wooden crates from Michael’s to use as risers. I also used a clear tray from the container store filled with sparkly sand to hold my earrings and cuff bracelets.

For the tissue paper back drops, I used this tutorial from Ruffled Blog. They were so easy to do, and I loved the way they turned out!

I also got the opportunity to share my booth with Tammy from Tammy Smith Designs, so it was great to see how our brands looked side by side. If you need some unique and fun art you should definitely check out her collection!

Renegade has such a great variety of goods and the sheer caliber of the skills and creativity of the vendors are so amazing and inspiring. I constantly had to remind myself that I was there to sell and not to shop, but that didn’t stop me from picking up a few things ūüôā I ended up getting this Chicago Print from Tammy Smith Designs and this Self Watering Garden Jar from my other booth neighbor, Modern Sprout.

Thanks again to everyone who stopped by and be sure to check out our Events Page regularly to see where See Song Designs will be next!

It’s Game Day Ya’ll!

Disclaimer: I did not go to school in the south nor did I go to OU (Illini for life, if you’re wondering).¬†However, my boyfriend went to OU and is a die hard Sooner fan. Thus, every year for the past 4 years, we travel down to Dallas for the Red River Rivalry game between the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas.

The first time I went to Dallas, it was a huge a culture shock to see southern belles decked out from head to toe in their school colors. I’m talking homemade spirit dresses, huge hair, bold lipstick, and of course, no outfit in the south is complete without cowboy boots. ¬†If you’re like me, and fairly new to the whole decked out game day look, it can be really easy to be fashionable while supporting your favorite team.

Victoria’s Secret has their¬†Collegiate Collection (and NFL & MLB lines)¬†which make dressing cute for the game super simple. ¬†If you have some time and you’re feeling crafty, I love this Game Day Dress tutorial made out of regular old tshirts. Jewelry and accessories are also a great way to add some color and sparkle to your look. I’m partial to our bow bracelets and bows in general.¬†Since SSD jewelry is hand made, we can make many of our designs in an endless array of colors. If you can’t find your team’s colors email us at¬†info@seesongdesigns.com¬†to order your spirit jewelry!

How do you rep your school on game day? Check out my game day inspo below!

DIY: Making Inspirational Quote Prints with PowerPoint

I recently moved to a new apartment in the Lincoln Park area of Chicago, and I have been trying to find cute yet economical ways to decorate my home office.¬†I love the look of a gallery wall, but with the number of frames and art work you need it can get pretty pricey. I’ve been seeing some adorable inspirational quote prints online, and I thought I would try to make my own. With this easy DIY you can make your own prints for nearly nothing and then you can just frame them up for a fab gallery wall!

Here is the current state of my office with a few DIY quote prints

Here is the current state of my office with a few DIY quote prints

No Photoshop? No problem! ¬†Since I studied business in college, I’ve learned to manipulate PowerPoint for all sorts of projects besides presentations. One of the most fun things I’ve learned is how to make fun and inspirational quote prints to decorate my walls. Most computers should have PowerPoint, and if you have Microsoft Word, you most likely have PowerPoint.

I’m using the PowerPoint for Microsoft Office 2010, but most of the menus should be the same for the earlier version as well.

Pick your favorite quote and open up PowerPoint. The best part about making these prints is that you have full range to customize whatever you would like.¬†Depending on which way you want your print to hang, select if you want your layout to be portrait or landscape. In this case, I’m going to change it to portrait.

Slide1

To help keep everything aligned, go up to the View menu, and check whichever options will help you most. I’m going to check ruler and gridlines.

Slide2

Now all you have to do is type out your quote. I like to separate the quote by the words in to separate text boxes. If you want to adjust all of the words at the same time just use the shortcut Ctrl A to select all of the words and then you can change the font and font sizes all at once.¬†Arrange how you want your quote to look and you can utilize the gridlines to get everything aligned. I’m going to center all of my words in a vertical format and make the font size larger as you go towards the bottom of the print.

I downloaded the font for this print from dafont.com It’s super simple, and then you just have to follow the directions on the site to pick a unique font. ¬†Just remember what the name of the font was or you won’t be able to find it in your font list later.

Slide3

To add color to you words, select the word(s) you want to change and click on the Format menu and then the Text Fill button. If you don’t see the color you want, click on More Fill Colors. You can select the Standard or Custom Tab to find your colors. I decided to go for an ombre look with my colors, so I chose a light blue to start off with.

Slide4

For my next word, I clicked on the Text Fill button again and changed it to the same light blue color (under Recent Colors) and then clicked on More Fill Colors again. This will give me the same chart with where my first color started, so I can just go down the gradient on the left to get a darker color with each word.

Slide5

print steps

Now, just go to the Main Menu button on the top right and click Save As and name your file and then make sure for Save as type, you select JPEG or PNG. Once you have your print saved, you can just print it out yourself or you can upload it to Walgreens or CVS and get it printed on photo paper to be picked up. Just note that depending on the resolution of your picture that printing really large sizes may not look that great. I’ve printed 8×10 prints, and they look just fine. Just realize that you may need to crop your print a bit to fit the standard photo sizes.

All done!

All done!

I bought IKEA NYTTJA frames since they were the cheapest, and I used Command Poster Strips to hang the frames. No nails for this apartment renter ūüôā So go ahead and make your own inspirational quote print, and you can definitely customize further with shapes and more colors! Endless Mean Girls and Bridesmaids quotes await…

This brings a smile on my face every time I walk past it
